Equipment

  • large skillet
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • wooden spoon
  • oven

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup milk or sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 box cheddar bay biscuit mix (with seasoning packet)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until fully browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Add diced onion and minced garlic and cook until softened. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Drain excess grease completely.
  • In a large bowl, combine cooked beef mixture, cream soup, milk or sour cream, and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until thick and evenly combined.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • Prepare the cheddar bay biscuit mix according to package instructions, stirring just until combined. Drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough evenly over the beef layer, leaving small gaps between portions.
  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until biscuits are golden brown and fully set. Brush with the included garlic butter seasoning. Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Drain ground beef thoroughly to prevent a watery filling. The beef should reach an internal temperature of 160°F before assembling. Do not overmix the biscuit dough or the topping will become dense. Bake uncovered so the biscuits rise properly and turn golden. Let the casserole rest 5–10 minutes before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months.
