Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Filtered water
  • 1 tsp Chan seeds Or chia seeds if unavailable
  • 1 slice Fresh ginger About 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 strip Lemon peel Dried or fresh zest
  • 1 stalk Lemongrass Or 1 tsp dried lemongrass
  • 1 small Cinnamon stick Optional adds warmth and balances flavor
  • 1 tsp Hibiscus petals Optional for color and antioxidant boost
  • To taste — Raw honey Optional added after steeping

Instructions

  • 1 Bring 2½ cups of filtered water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  • 2 Add ginger, lemon peel, lemongrass, cinnamon stick, and hibiscus petals.
  • 3 Reduce heat and simmer for 5–7 minutes to allow flavors to release.
  • 4 Turn off heat, stir in chan or chia seeds, and let steep for 3–5 minutes.
  • 5 Strain tea into mugs. Add honey to taste if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

This Costa Rican tea is best enjoyed first thing in the morning or after a heavy meal. Chan seeds provide satiety while herbs soothe digestion. Optional ingredients like hibiscus or cinnamon can be added for additional flavor and wellness support.
